  1. I don't want to limit these with words.

  2. A veritable high-wired symphony of crows, subtlely underlined with a canine counterpoint of basso profundo.

  3. These torn letters,
    tossed onto the fire
    scatter in the winter sky,
    and for a moment
    remind me of birds.

  6. Bonjour chère magnifique tellement gentille amie Roxana.

  7. These seem to be illustrations for a great eastern European fairy tale, some bizarre and fabulous variation on one of Fontaine's fables, instead of "the Crow and the Fox", it is "the Crows and the Dogs", à la Hitchcock, with a large dose of Floating Bridge magic tossed in for good measure.

This is so far beyond the edge of time, this is where time swirls in the spaces between stars, where flocks of birds beyond numbers spin in our collective imagination, where Edgar Allen Poe met the raven which inspired his famous, "Nevermore", where we common mortals lose our reason and run gibbering across the snowy fields, with rabid packs of dogs nipping at our heels.

I can taste already the dreams these images will inspire, out there beyond the edge of time.

Or was it perhaps beyond the edge of a city dump ??? Where birds and dogs come to feed on all that man casts off as waste ?

Poetry, poetry, poetry is burning in your eyes. Even in the heart of winter.

  8. atatea pasari, draga mea,ce mult imi vestesc ele,in zbaterile si regasirile lor,in incercuirile crampeielor de adapost,in panzele nesfarsite de alb si mereu negru.cum caut mereu in lume urmele mortilor.

  11. The inevitable crescendo of a veritable maelstrom. I really like these. The one with the pack of dogs is my favorite.

  12. Oh, i have three word for you. Do you want to know what they are? She's probably thinking that she ought to say yes (for the sake of
politeness). She sure wouldn't want to be branded as unfeeling. Or, she's thinking about how in heaven's name she will respond in the comments if she says no. (She's probably not thinking any of these). Cloud, castle, lake.

It happened that on a distant slope or in a gap in the trees there would appear and, as it were, stop for an instant, like air retained in the lungs, a spot so enchanting-- a lawn, a terrace-- such perfect expression of tender well-meaning beauty-- that it seemed that if one could stop the train and go thither, forever, to you, my love...

For those of you that don't understand any of this (including our bridge goddess), i offer this explanation: Roxana probably remembers that i revere Nabokov... the text is from a story called, oddly enough, Cloud, Castle, Lake. It is about a train journey. i often wished that someone could photograph the journey as i have imagined it. My wish, recast in winter, has finally come true. i am elated.

  13. the ghost of trakl wandering
    here
    drunken, still scribbling

    images of

  15. Una inquietante sorpresa que se anuncia lentamente. Me ha producido desasosiego, primero ha venido Alfred Hictcock después Edgar Alan Poe.
Roxana, ¿que decirte que no te haya dicho antes? Me tocas.
Te considero una artista en estado puro.
Un gran y admirado abrazo, querida amiga***

  18. merc, isn't it strange that we tend to think words can enclose and limit, but not gaze?

Lynne, haha, a canine counterpoint of basso profundo, this is so funny, i am still smiling :-)

ah Dan, that is a highly poetical reverie upon these images, now i am almost disappointed they are only birds...

b, i am happy you like the first one - as for the red spot of the sun, i don't know, why don't you write a story explaining that, i humbly only took the pictures, i haven't invented the world :-)

  19. Words are a corpse we breathe life into ;-)

haha, Owen, you made me so laugh, "the Crows and the Dogs", à la Hitchcock, of course i had thought of the Birds myself and tried to find a title with a pun alluding to that, but you and Lynne are the great pun masters, i had to limit myself to a slightly melancholic traditional Bridge-title :-)
ps. indeed, it is the garbage dump of Bucharest, seen from the train...

  21. but you *have* invented a world, a small miniature world, in which we all get lost...

Stickup, yes, i admit there is a particular charm to that one with the dogs...

    Prospero,
"She's probably not thinking any of these" - yes, you are right here... but the words are wonderful, and somehow they bring tears to my eyes now, i remember the story, and much more...

Sutton, the ghost of Trakl, how fitting, indeed... thank you, dear friend...

schoenste Gruesse an Dich, meine Liebe!
    (bald schreibe ich mehr)

Ofelia, ah, Poe, i hadn't thought of him (a favourite writer) but now i see the connection :-)
thank you so much, your words always bring a smile on my lips...
    besitos :-)

  25. J'ai aperçu ton post depuis quelques jours !
    Superbe !
    J'aime infiniment ton talent !

  26. these are amazing! of course, i love the first, this single, doubled motion in the blurred gray, like the birth of the world ... but the others are closer to the reality of these flocks of crows that have always fascinated me, this seething in the air where a perfect, lyrical order suddenly crystallizes out of what had seemed chaos ... somehow, the red won't let me breathe slowly ...

  27. coucou Roxana...

L'air qu'ils boivent feraient éclater vos poumons.

  29. This is as if something I saw in the sky yesterday was embossed with validation. Never have I seen more than maybe five crows together but yesterday as I was outside feeding the stray cats I heard them first, then looked up and over my head flew an entire flock of crows, all calling excitedly. There were probably 75. It was amazing to me.

The image with the dogs (wild ones?) and the birds is one of the most amazing shots I have ever seen.
