invitation!

i am happy to announce that i shall take a break from the Floating Bridge (or the Kingdom of the Bridges without Proper Support, a more pragmatic name that was suggested to me in the flow of the last post's reactions :-) to answer Manuela's incredible invitation to spend a week on her blog. I haven't been aware of the concept "blog guest" - are you? -, but i must confess i am truly excited and enthusiastic about everything it implies: bond, trust, shared creativity, openness, dialogue.

i think this sums us pretty much everything. oh, and i have to add only this: Manuela made coffee, i will make tea as well, we'd be so happy if you joined the party (b, i think we can even find some biscuits/cakes/rolls for you somewhere :-)

  3. what about a mojito in the afternoons?

  4. Hey, what do you take me for, a glutton?

(Actually, those biscuits do look rather tempting!)

No! I refuse! To think that I might be seduced like that! Thoba! May the good Lord protect me.

  5. Hi Wayne, now i have to confess i am in big trouble, i hadn't even known what a mojito was! let's wait for Manuela to wake up, and if she doesn't know how to make one, then i guess you will have to take care of it yourself! :-)
    (i am curious!!!)

  6. b, come on, think about it, fresh cinnamon rolls, mmm
can your prayers protect you of that? :-)

  7. billo, if i'm allowed to interject, i don't think roxana meant that you need food to visit. blame it on romanian hospitality - we like to feed and spoil our guests.

(yes, we know she did... but romanians also like to make fun of their friends)

if anyone cares to know, this morning i made waffles...

  8. Oh yes, there are special prayers against the temptation of lemon-custard biscuits and cinnamon rolls..er..that's what we were talking about, right?

Actually, al-Q have just published them in their latest manifesto. Should be out at Border's soon. Can't wait.

  9. b, i think you wrote at the same time with Manuela, who in her generosity tries to protect you from my jokes :-) but, this is true: romanians really love to do that, they stuff their guests with food until these are about to expire, and then start all over again. come and dare to visit, if you don't believe me :-)

    ReplyDelete
  10. HA! Romanians sound like desis..except we carry on even if they do expire! :-)

Hello, Manuela..no, interject all you like!:-0

And if I visit, will Manuela be there to protect me?

    ReplyDelete
  11. that we can negociate, little scared b, i'm sure she will find ways to protect you :-) but now that you gave us ideas, we will feed you waffles a.s.o. even after you expire!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Will there be cabbage?

Thanks, but no thanks. I don't negosiate with your tribe, I'm afraid.

  13. that's too bad, you have no idea what you miss :-)

  17. Peter, i am still just a click away - as they say - over on the other blog, isn't it weird what happens to distances?
so why should you miss me? unless you desire to do so, of course :-)

    ReplyDelete
  18. you might well know that sometimes a click away is farther than the distance of half a million light year.. seriously..
    .
    .
    .
    joke!!
anyway, i miss you at anytime. :p

  19. miss you already but if I get cinnamon rolls - yummmm

  21. Enjoy your week. Come back, though!

    ReplyDelete
  22. well, actually this wanted to be an invitation for you guys as well, to come over and play our colour-week game, but i see many of you understood only that i was taking a break from here, my poor choice of words must be to blame! :-)

  23. Zuma, hi :-)
thank you for reassuring me, i had already imagined a thousand possible scenarios, just to give you an example, that you have perhaps driven off a cliff or been knifed by burglars in a dark alley. glad to hear everything is ok, though it is not easy to give up the entertainement provided by such dramatic novels in my head :-P (you get of course rescued on the last page, i should add :-)

    ReplyDelete
  24. no, we just are afraid to step off the bridge - on floating bridges it might not be that safe ;)

    ReplyDelete
  25. oh - and i had only imagined that staying on the floating bridge might prove not that safe - but perhaps you are right, and everything connected with floating bridges is not safe and should be avoided at all cost :-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. not so much, one is doomed to spend time on floating bridges as normal ones just get you from here to there, with neither here nor there being too exciting ;) but sometimes there comes such storm that it looks like bridge will break under your weight - so it might be better to jump off. Of course there is a drawback of falling and inability to climb back, frustration of the absence of dreams and so on ;)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Eneles, i think an engineer would reason like this: instead of jumping off, wouldn't it be better to manufacture some 'proper support' for the bridge to resist the storm and thus help it return to its usual floating state? :-) oh, where are the good engineers when one needs them?

however, i must wonder: how come you complain about stone bridges, with your love - no, wrong word - need for solidity? i think they have their charm, and if old chinese poets drunk on dark red wine are not immune to it, you can't be either, at least some things you have in common :-)

Less than a day in paradise
and a thousand years have passed among men.
While the pieces are still being laid on the board
All things have changed to emptiness.
Nothing is what it was but the stone bridge.

    Li Po

    ReplyDelete
  28. that depends on the intensity of the storm, in a category five hurricanes there are no engineering solutions (see new orleans story)

stone bridges are also interesting, but what Li Bo didn't know is that chinese will replace all stone bridges by metal ones of the same kind. and only in very rural areas (;)) there remain the old-style bridges.

and it is my priviledge to quote him - for I am going to china in a month (again).

    ReplyDelete
  29. perhaps - but perhaps trying is all that is needed sometimes, instead of jumping off :-)

oh, how wonderful for you - of course i envy you as well :-) - but you will have the most beautiful trip, chinese hotel rooms used to have their charm as well - ah, and interesting gifts for the guests :-)

    ReplyDelete
  30. btw, Zuma, speaking of my longing for countries i have never visited (China, India) makes me think of this crucial question: where are my teas? :-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Eneles, i forgot to ask: where exactly do you go in China? (and also, do you get an email notification when i answer in the comments? just making sure you get everything, from the past as well, not that it is terribly important that you do :-)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Roxana,

I am going to Beijing for a few days and then - didn't I say that I am going to the roof? so yes, Tibet is the most likely thing now. alternative would be - in case I won't get tibet permit - Xi'An /Hwangshan (not the same as huang shan) but I think these are better in winter. why do you ask? ;)

no, I do not, silly blogspot - no threads ;) answer to this - I checked the box with "email followup".

    ReplyDelete
  33. Eneles, no, you didn't say anything about the roof... again, i wish you the most wonderful trip - no, not this. just the trip that you need, it's more important.

ah, you do not because you don't check that follow-up thing. i just wondered, because i answered so late on the previous post.
