some spring-time snow

Photobucket

here, amidst flurrying cherry blossoms
it’s as though some spring-time snow
were falling and did not melt

spending the spring night in the foothills
I slept, and deep inside my dream
blossoms fell without cease

  1. i am currently away from home, spending a few days in Veliko-Tarnovo, once the capital of the Bulgarian empire, a wonderful little town set upon hills in terraces following the meanders of the Yantra river. more photos will follow :-)

  2. ...jetzt bin bezaubert, verzaubert..!

  4. I'm always amazed at how you manage to take these pictures, the perfect shake of snow over that adorable town.

  5. Just call me the Heliogabalus of snow: i will sit here, counting each delicate and uniquely reticulate flake, till i feel a shiver so intense that my feeble eyes numb with cold.

  6. The first photo has me captivated with the snow coming down. spring snow is like getting a winter gift in spring.

  7. but these are petals (and i believe, leaves as well), raised in the air by a sudden gush of terrible wind which marked the beginning of a spring storm! i just happened to be there, i was strolling with the camera on one terrace which overlooked the town - this amazing flurry lasted for about 5 minutes!!!

the comparison between the falling of cherry blossoms in spring and snow in winter is a constant topic of Japanese poems, as illustrated in the first verse i chose for the post :-)

  9. Heliogabalus sees what he wants to see (a notion so infectious it knows no bounds). The frigidity is a little harder to explain, but in unadorned madness, all senses are equipotent.

  10. spring like a geisha
    unbearble pink
    a million petals soon gone
    quicker than snow, quicker
    than this

ah my friend how beautiful and I must confess I said to a couple of friends today as it actually did snow here so yes it was springtime snow, hahs I said that is really not falling snowflakes they are falling white daisy petals blown by the springtime wind and they absolutely loved it! we are so used to making jokes around here about springtime snow that we always welcome new thoughts. and ofcourse it was the bridge that inspired me!

  14. I love the rooftops in that town. They are all the same dusky rose! And the fact that these are petals is enchanting. I would have loved to feel those falling petals on my skin...
